Jewels in the Pond
Richard's "Koi Series" is created in Japanese style that has guided major portions of
Chesler's art for over 45 years. this vibrant subject matter gives Richard the opprtunity
to create from his imagination as well as detailed portraits of Koi Champions.
He begins with a detail drawing, then a color sketch which features body conformation,
pattern, color and quality. Remarkable transparency in the Koi scales is achieved
through the use of oil on canvas and Richard's meticulously crafted techniques.
Each of these paintings features two Japanese elments in tribute to his deep appreciation
for the culture. The first is element is a "chop" design that symbolizes the sprit of the
painting and title. the second is the artist's signature in japanese kanji.
